Who is Heather MacIntyre?
Heather MacIntyre is a Pittsburgh, PA, native. She began to pursue formal training at Carlow University, where she is earning her Bachelor of Arts in Art Education. Her piece, “Not Clean Yet,” was published in the 35th edition of Carlow’s Undergraduate Arts and Literary Journal, Critical Point. She had three more pieces published in the 37th edition of Critical Point: “As I Am,” “As You Are,” and “As We Are.”
Her works of art explore human existence, focusing on themes of identity, memory, and emotion. She relies heavily on mixed media in her work, using saturated colors paired with found objects to create an immersive experience that evokes a sense of nostalgia.
Heather’s artistic process has been deeply inspired by major life events from her childhood, teenhood, and early adulthood that have followed her to her practice now. In her youth, she would use art to express her internal turmoil from external sources. She has taken that process and reworked it into a way of documenting who she is at the time of the artwork's creation and to help better understand who she is. She invites the audience to see her raw emotions and feel alongside her.
